TISC ADULT SAILING PROGRAM

At Treasure Island Sailing Center, we have a passion for the sport of sailing and we want to share it with you.  We have a number of classes planned for Spring 2008.  Check out our schedule for Summer.

Class Descriptions:

Beginner Dinghy Class: Sailing in a dinghy is fun, fast, and physical!  The beginner dinghy class will cover basic sailing skills.  The class will take place in the protected waters of Clipper Cove and uses double-handed Flying Junior dinghies.  Each sailor will learn how to skipper and crew.  The boats can capsize, so be prepared to get wet.  TISC provides wetsuits and lifejackets.  Skills covered: tacking, docking, jibing, reaching, capsize recovery, safety position, knowledge of boat parts, rigging, derigging, knot tying, wind direction.

Intermediate Dinghy Class: The intermediate class will build upon the skills learned in the beginner class.  Intermediate sailors will learn how to sail on different points of sail and will gain a greater understanding of sail trim.  The intermediate class will also introduce students to racing basics such as courses, starts, and basic rules.  Skills covered: basic understanding of racing, starting, rules, wind shifts, upwind/downwind sail trim, points of sail, hiking tiller, advanced boat handling, and speed.

Beginner Keelboat Class: The beginner keelboat class will introduce sailors to the basics of safely sailing a keelboat.  This class will take place in Clipper Cove, and will also venture out into the waters of San Francisco Bay.  Sailors will learn how to skipper and crew a J/24 through basic maneuvers in various wind and sea conditions.  Skills covered: tacking, jibing, docking, reaching, sail trim, knowledge of boat parts, rigging, derigging, knot tying, wind direction.

Intermediate Keelboat Class: The intermediate keelboat class will allow students to increase their confidence and learn new skills.  Intermediate sailors will improve their boat handling skills and boat speed on different points of sail and will learn how to anchor.  Skills covered: anchoring, boat handling, upwind/downwind sail trim, points of sail, wind shifts.

Adventure Descriptions:

Clipper Cove Kayak Tour: Hop on a two person kayak and paddle away!  TISC's sit-on-top kayaks are fun and easy to maneuver.  Two hour kayak tours will teach you the basics of paddling and maneuvering kayaks in the protected waters of Clipper Cove.  Once you get the basics down, the fun really begins; kayak under the Bay Bridge, race against your fellow kayakers, get wet, and have a blast!  Be sure to bring a change of clothes, you will get wet.  TISC provides wetsuits.

Friday Night Fun Sail and Sunday Funday:  Spend three hours enjoying the beautiful sights and sounds you can only experience while sailing on the Bay.  These events will use either J/24s or access dinghies.
