TISC is proud to operate the coolest field in San Francisco – Set Sail Learn! Free for all SFUSD 4th Grade classrooms, Set Sail Learn has given over 10,000 young people the chance to sail on and learn about the San Francisco Bay.
Teachers choose from one of three exciting hands on lessons – Ecology of the Bay; Maritime Engineering History; or the Power of the Wind – and recive instructional materials to prepare their class before their field trip. Students then take a bus to visit TISC on the day of their field trip and participate in both an on-land activity and a sailing experience in safe and protected Clipper Cove, learning about the bay and how we all interact with it.
In our 10th year running, this award-winning program brings over 1200 youth out on the water each year, teaches valuable boating safety basics and shows our participants that there is a place for everyone on the water.
