TISC offers Private Lessons with our Instructors to help our students reach their goals. Whether you want some one-on-one time with a coach to practice skills necessary for renting at TISC, get ready for racing this season, or just get some confidence back, our Instructors are here to help!
We offer Private Lessons on any dinghies in our fleet. If your lesson is on a double-handed boat we encourage you to bring a crew with sailing experience so the Instructor can spend their time observing and coaching rather than sailing. If you are unable to find crew, the lesson can be done-single-handed, or if necessary in the conditions, the Instructor can be crew. Most times, the Instructor will follow alongside in a safety boat and provide instruction from outside the sailboat.
Private Lessons are offered 6 days a week (no Private Lessons on Wednesdays) during our open hours (9am-5pm). Two time slots are available per day: 10am-1pm and 1:30pm-4:30pm. The winds are generally lighter in the mornings, so consider the time of day when scheduleing your lesson.
For Introductory Lessons, a significant amount of time will be spent on land and on the dock learning about the boat, how to rig it and how it works. For most other Private Lessons, the student is expected to rig the boat on their own time and the Instructor will meet them at the scheduled time to provide Instruction. After the lesson is over, students will derig and clean their boat on their own time.
Private Lesson Hourly rate – $100

The Feva is a great boat for younger sailors to use to practice more advanced sailing skills like sailing with a partner and sailing fast. This boat is quick and zippy.
15ft, 2 adults
V15s are very similar to FJs but a little bit easier for adults to sail. We also have an active racing fleet that races on Tuesday and Thursday nights. Get Training!
13ft, 2 young adults
Mostly used for competition for High School and College, it can be a fun option for adult learners too. Pretty tippy, but the systems are very basic and it’s a great bare-bones experience that prepares you for many other boats. With more sail area than a Feva, sailors should be slightly larger to keep this boat dry.
16ft, 1-5 adults
This is the largest and most stable platform available for lessons at TISC. Fun and responsive, with main, roller furling jib and asymmetrical spinnaker.
We create opportunities for people to learn and grow through sailing by providing facilities, sailing instruction, and access to the water for people of all socio-economic backgrounds, abilities and skill levels from novice to Olympian.
